In 2K Games’ Mafia II, Vito Scaletta is an Italian immigrant (Sicilian, to be precise) during the 1940s who wants nothing more than to make it in America. After witnessing the failures of his father—a tired drunk who apparently had his own problems to settle—Vito teams up with his buddy Joe and the pair are quick to turn to crime. Starcraft is back and it’s as better as it was ten years. It’s a fun, technically solid game with great music and solid visuals. There’s a decent 20 hours of solid gameplay in the single-player alone – pretty much all of it enjoyable – and there’s probably enough hours of fun in the multiplayer to last you, oh, let’s say 12 years. Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) games are notoriously difficult to review, due to their constantly evolving feature set and rules. Akin to providing a match report of a football game at half-time, an MMO review can only serve as a document of the game at a certain point in time. Spring Up Harmony is an Xbox Live Arcade Indie Game from developer Frozax that “takes the best of Breakout and Pachinko and spices it up with 2D physics” according to the marketing blurb. I like arcade games and have admittedly spent more time playing Breakout/Arkanoid/Peggle than I’d like to admit, so I was looking forward to seeing what kind of spin Spring Up Harmony would bring to the old “hit things with balls” formula. In this business the bigger steps get noticed and applauded, while smaller but important updates can be overlooked. Last year WWE SmackDown vs Raw 2010 was a huge step forward for the series and we gave it high praise for the implementation of an insanely deep online community as well as a new storyline creation mode to go with Create-A-Wrestler. If you’re not familiar with the Brave and the Bold’s take on the Batman universe, it’s very different from that of Arkham Asylum, or even Batman: The Animated Series. The game, like the show, is a throwback to the campy Batman of the ‘60s, with Robin making his goofy quips and the villains not remotely serious or scary.
