Summary

With the introduction of the eastern lands of Khitai, Age of Conan: Rise of the Godslayer expands the world of Hyboria, offering new adventures, challenges, and stories for both new and veteran players.

Introduction

Age of Conan: Rise of the Godslayer, released on May 11, 2010, serves as the first expansion pack for the critically acclaimed MMORPG Age of Conan. It unveils the vast, mysterious lands of Khitai, offering players an expansive new territory to explore.

Synopsis

The plot is set in the lands of Khitai after the events of the short story “The Tower of the Elephant”, where a young Conan killed the “Elephant God” Yag-Kosha out of mercy. This act earned Conan the title of the “Godslayer”. After Conan became a king, strange and terrible things started happening in the empire of Khitai. The player character must explore the dark roads of the Empire and walk the path of the Godslayer as they unravel a mature and deep storyline full of brutal conflict and political intrigue.

The expansion adds the mysterious eastern lands of Khitai to the game, a new zone for characters of levels 20-40 and four new high-level zones for level 80 characters. It also introduces the Alternative Advancement (AA) system, a new tree of character perks or feats.

The gameplay remains largely the same as in the original “Age of Conan”. The player uses a giant bipedal mech called an Armored Command Unit (ACU) to build an army with which they can conquer their opponents. The expansion expands on the original gameplay mechanics, adding new units, modifying old ones, and introducing other improvements to the user interface.

The most notable addition to this expansion is the addition of a new faction, the Seraphim. In addition, the three original factions — the United Earth Federation (UEF), Cybran Nation, and Aeon Illuminate — also receive a number of new units. Other new content includes new maps.

Several improvements to the controls and behind the scenes mechanics have been made as well. The interface has been revamped, as well as improved pathfinding and aircraft flight dynamics. The original “Age of Conan” allowed the player to employ all four traditional battlespaces — air, information, land, and sea. “Rise of the Godslayer” adds the ability for the UEF faction to construct orbital weaponry which the player can control.

Characters

Rise of the Godslayer brings to the forefront the factions of Khitai, each with its unique storyline, allies, and enemies. Players encounter new NPCs, formidable foes, and can align with different factions to influence their journey.

Gameplay

The expansion enhances the game with new quests, dungeons, and raids. It introduces a faction system, allowing players to earn reputation and unlock rewards. The gameplay is further enriched by the addition of new mounts and combat pets.

Conclusion

Age of Conan: Rise of the Godslayer stands as a significant addition to the Age of Conan universe, deepening the gameplay experience with its vast new lands and intricate faction system.
