Sonic Rivals 2 is a side-scrolling platformer game developed by Sega Studio USA and published by Sega. It is the sequel to Sonic Rivals, and was released for the PlayStation Portable in November 2007. The game follows Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends as they race through various zones to collect the Chaos Emeralds and stop Eggman Nega from using them to unleash the Ifrit, a powerful inter-dimensional beast.

Gameplay

Sonic Rivals 2 is a 2D side-scroller with a focus on speed and platforming. The player controls one of four characters: Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles “Tails” Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, or Shadow the Hedgehog. Each character has their own unique abilities and playstyle. Sonic is fast and agile, Tails can fly and use his gadgets, Knuckles can glide and climb walls, and Shadow can use Chaos Control to slow down time.

The game is divided into seven zones, each with four acts. The player must race through each act, collecting rings and avoiding obstacles. At the end of each act, the player must defeat a boss. The game also features a number of bonus stages, which can be accessed by collecting special rings.

Story

The story of Sonic Rivals 2 begins with the disappearance of the Chao. Sonic and Tails immediately set out to find them, and soon discover that Eggman Nega has stolen them and hidden them inside a haunted mansion. Eggman Nega plans to feed the Chao to the Ifrit, a powerful inter-dimensional beast who needs to eat them to become invincible.

Meanwhile, Silver the Hedgehog has returned from a now ruined future caused by the Ifrit. In order to make a happier future, he searches for and steals the Chao that are left in order to hide them. Espio first thought that Silver was hiding Chao for a cause of evil, but Espio finds out that Silver was trying to save the world. Then, they work together to save the world.

Sonic and Tails team up with Knuckles and Rouge the Bat to stop Eggman Nega and save the Chao. Shadow the Hedgehog and Metal Sonic also join the fray, seeking to retrieve the Chaos Emeralds before Eggman Nega can use them.

Characters

  • Sonic the Hedgehog: The fastest thing alive, Sonic is always ready for a challenge. He is agile and quick-witted, and uses his speed to outmaneuver his opponents.
  • Miles “Tails” Prower: Sonic’s best friend, Tails is a brilliant inventor and pilot. He uses his gadgets to help Sonic in his adventures, and can also fly for short periods of time.
  • Knuckles the Echidna: The guardian of the Master Emerald, Knuckles is strong and powerful. He can glide and climb walls, and is also a skilled fighter.
  • Shadow the Hedgehog: A mysterious and powerful hedgehog, Shadow is Sonic’s rival. He is fast, strong, and can use Chaos Control to slow down time.
  • Eggman Nega: A mad scientist and Sonic’s arch-nemesis, Eggman Nega is always plotting to take over the world. He is cunning and intelligent, and uses his robots to do his bidding.
  • Metal Sonic: A robotic doppelgänger of Sonic, Metal Sonic is fast and powerful. He is loyal to Eggman Nega, and will stop at nothing to defeat Sonic.
