Suikoden V, released in 2006, is a role-playing video game developed by Konami and Hudson Soft, and published by Konami for the Sony PlayStation 2 video game console. It is the fifth and final main installment of the Suikoden video game series.

The game is loosely based on a classical Chinese novel, Shui Hu Zhuan by Shi Nai’an. The story centers on the political struggles of the Queendom of Falena. The game takes place six in-universe years before the events of the first Suikoden.

The player controls the Prince of Falena, Freyjadour, and travels the world, acquiring allies and dealing with the problems of the nation. The game features a vast array of characters, with over sixty characters usable in combat and many more able to help or hinder the Prince in a variety of ways.

In terms of gameplay, Suikoden V is a console role-playing game and thus shares many traits with past titles in the series. A new feature involves a party member specifically following Freyjadour onscreen, who can be spoken to in order to remind the player what the party’s current task is


The game features a vast ensemble of characters, including the prince protagonist, Princess Lymsleia, the knight Georg Prime, and the mysterious tactician Lucretia. Each character brings unique skills and perspectives to the unfolding drama.


Gameplay involves strategic turn-based battles with six-member teams, a series of gripping mini-games, and managing the prince’s headquarters. The game’s world is expansive, offering numerous quests and secrets to uncover.

Reception and Critiscism

Suikoden V received acclaim for its story, character development, and gameplay innovations. However, it faced criticism for its pacing and some gameplay mechanics. Despite this, it remains a beloved entry in the series.
