Superbeat: Xonic is a rhythm game developed by Nurijoy and published by PM Studios for the PlayStation Vita. It was released in Japan on December 17, 2015, and in North America and Europe on February 23, 2016. The game is a spiritual successor to the DJMax music game series, and its gameplay is based on the 2014 arcade game Beatcraft Cyclon, also made by Nurijoy.


The gameplay of Superbeat: Xonic consists of tapping notes to the beat of a song, either with the PlayStation Vita’s face buttons or touchscreen. The game features three different modes of difficulty: 4 TRAX mode, 6 TRAX, and 6 TRAX FX. In 4 TRAX mode, the player must tap notes on four different tracks, while in 6 TRAX mode, the player must tap notes on six different tracks. 6 TRAX FX mode is similar to 6 TRAX mode, but with the addition of special effects that can make the gameplay more challenging.

When selecting any mode, three tracks are played in succession and the player’s performance is evaluated at the end. The player’s score is based on their accuracy and timing, and they can earn up to three stars for each track. Local scores can be uploaded to a global online leaderboard if the player is connected to the internet.
