Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment: A Thrilling Adventure in Aincrad
Introduction
Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment is a Japanese role-playing game developed by Aquria and published by Bandai Namco Games. It is the second game in the Sword Art Online video game series, based on the light novel series of the same name by Reki Kawahara. The game was released in Japan for the PlayStation Vita in April 2014, and in North America and Europe in August 2014.
Gameplay
Hollow Fragment is an action RPG that combines elements of a MMORPG—albeit in a simulated fashion as it is not an online game, though it does include limited multiplayer via ad hoc for up to four players—as well as elements of a dating sim. The player controls the main character Kirito, who has been trapped in a MMORPG called Sword Art Online, where dying in the game will lead to his death in real life as well.
The game takes place in the same continuity as the prior game in the series, Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment, which exists in an alternate storyline from the Sword Art Online anime storyline. However, Hollow Fragment features a new story and new characters.
In Hollow Fragment, Kirito and his friends must explore the Hollow Area, a new area of Aincrad that was not included in the original game. The Hollow Area is home to new monsters and bosses, as well as new items and equipment.
Characters
Hollow Fragment features over 100 recruitable characters, including many of the characters from the Sword Art Online anime series. Players can choose to have up to three characters accompany them in the game’s dungeons.
Each character has their own unique skills and abilities, so players can experiment with different party combinations to find the best way to take on the game’s challenges.
Dating Sim Elements
In addition to the action RPG gameplay, Hollow Fragment also features dating sim elements. Players can interact with the game’s characters in a variety of ways, including talking to them, giving them gifts, and going on dates.
As players build relationships with the characters, they will learn more about their backstories and motivations. Players can also unlock special events and endings by dating certain characters.
Story
Hollow Fragment’s story takes place after the events of Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment. Kirito and his friends have defeated the final boss of the game, but they are still trapped in Aincrad.
One day, Kirito and his friends discover a new area of Aincrad called the Hollow Area. The Hollow Area is home to new monsters and bosses, as well as new items and equipment.
Kirito and his friends decide to explore the Hollow Area, hoping to find a way to escape from Aincrad. However, they soon discover that the Hollow Area is not what it seems.
The Hollow Area is actually a trap created by the game’s creator, Akihiko Kayaba. Kayaba wants to keep Kirito and his friends trapped in Aincrad forever.
Kirito and his friends must find a way to defeat Kayaba and escape from the Hollow Area before it’s too late.
Reception
Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment received generally positive reviews from critics. The game was praised for its engaging story, fun combat, and deep character development. However, the game was also criticized for its repetitive gameplay and lack of innovation.
Overall, Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment is a solid action RPG that fans of the series will enjoy. The game features a compelling story, fun combat, and deep character development. However, the game’s repetitive gameplay and lack of innovation may disappoint some players.
