Summary

Fate/Extra: A Dungeon-Crawling RPG Set in a Parallel Universe

Fate/Extra is a dungeon crawl style Japanese role-playing game developed by Imageepoch and published by Marvelous Entertainment. It was released in Japan in 2010 for the PlayStation Portable, and in North America and Europe in 2011. The game takes place in a parallel universe to the visual novel Fate/stay night, and follows the story of a young man or woman who is summoned to participate in the Holy Grail War, a battle royale between seven Masters and their Servants.

Gameplay

Fate/Extra is a dungeon crawl RPG in which the player explores dungeons, battles monsters, and interacts with other characters. The game’s dungeons are procedurally generated, meaning that they are different every time you play. Players can choose to play as either a male or female character, and must select one of three Servants to fight alongside them: Saber, Archer, or Caster. Each Servant has their own unique strengths and weaknesses, and players must use strategy to choose the right Servant for each battle.

The game’s turn-based battle system is comparable to rock-paper-scissors. Players can choose to attack, break, or guard, and each move is strong against one of the other two. Players must predict their opponent’s move and choose the appropriate counter in order to win.

Story

The story of Fate/Extra takes place in a parallel universe to the visual novel Fate/stay night. In this universe, the Holy Grail War is a battle royale between seven Masters and their Servants.
